A Nationwide Leader in Prosecuting Health Care Fraud
Fighting health care fraud is part of Attorney General Kroger's larger effort to make health care more accessible and affordable for all Oregonians. The Department's Medicaid Fraud Unit aggressively deters, investigates and prosecutes billing fraud committed by Medicaid providers. 
The Medicaid Fraud Unit also investigates and prosecutes physical, sexual or financial abuse and neglect of residents who reside in Medicaid-funded facilities. In addition to criminal prosecutions, the Medicaid Fraud Unit and the Department's Financial Fraud section aggressively pursue pharmaceutical companies for conducting fraudulent drug marketing campaigns that mislead consumers, endanger public health or cause the Medicaid program to pay more than it should.
The Oregon Department of Justice is a national leader in cracking down on health care fraud, recovering more than $19 million for the Oregon Health Plan and Oregon consumers since 2008. In addition to their work in our state, the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit recently helped lead a team that reached a $2.3 billion national settlement with Pfizer, the largest health care fraud settlement in history.
